Safflower (carthamus tinctorius) is a highly branched , plants are 30 to 150 cm (12-59 in ) tall with globular flower heads having yellow , orange or red flowers it is commercially cultivated for vegetable oil extracted from the seeds, each branch will usually have from one to five flower heads containing 15 to 20 seeds per head safflower is used for coloring and and flavoring foods, in medicines, dried safflower petals are used in folk medicine and have been shown to invigorate blood circulation. In addition, dried safflower petals contain yellow dyes that are used to color food and cosmetics.
